The uncommon language

"Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel? - Ralph Waldo Emerson

We all speak. Some do it pretty well, some are horrible and it, while some just manage to pull the boat safely ashore. Very few would have thought at the beginning of existence that the tongue and the lips and the sounds made by them, in conjunction, can make such a difference to the way history has progressed, and how speech, and its language , have influenced mankind, his history, his progress, and his downfall.

Words can make or break anything. From hearts to kingdoms. Words and the language have a steady influence on the thought process of the listener, which, though not agreed upon, does influence the way one looks at life and its living. A common medium of expression, as we all know, is pretty much necessary for the message to be conveyed across, in the most effective way. And language, we would agree, is the tool for the realization of this expression. We have thousands of languages in the world today, and each language has its own dictionary in itself. Syllables, dialects, slang. Purity, are some attributes we associate with a language. A language gives the power to the orator/ writer, to transform it into the most beautiful poem, a language gives the power to the orator/ writer to motivate the downtrodden and the same language has the power to break barriers, at any level.

One may not realize always that along with the language we speak, we also live in a world where things are conveyed in a language, that need not necessarily have words associated with it. Two people in love have their own language, the language of the hearts, which often is conveyed through the eyes and through subtle actions. An artisan speaks through his work. A dog wags its tail to show it?s care, a cat purrs and cuddles up. A one year old baby, perhaps, speaks the most, in a language that is pure. An artist has his way of expression, for he speaks with his work more often than ever. A musician through his instrument conveys what the gods cannot. So, we do have this language prevelant, all around us, but just that the ignorant human we are, we tend to ignore it, or worse, we just don?t listen to it.

I attended the toastmasters session for the first time in office today, and I was literally awestruck by the quality of speeches, the expressions and the language used, and of course the style with which they were presented. And as I was clicking photographs, I realized that I was talking too. I was talking the uncommon language. A language where you need not worry about having a stage fear, when you talk.
