Whalewatchers

On Friday we woke up somewhere off the coast of Brittany, France, on the Pride of Bilbao, a passenger ferry which sails between Portsmouth and... Bilbao in the Basque Country (Spain). It only has two more trips to go now before the service ends.

We were there to look for whales, dolphins and seabirds. The route the ship happens to follow happens to take it along the edge of the continental shelf. The change in depth means that whales and dolphins may follow it on their migration, or it creates a rich food source. Something like that...

We'd just been watching some Sperm and Fin Whales when I took this shot of fellow whalewatchers gathered around the rails on the top deck.

Though there were lots of whalewatchers on board and it got pretty crowded up there, other people were there just for the ride.
