Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

So we got our alarm call at 5.45am on Saturday and got off the boat somewhere around 7. Some of our gang which headed up the nearest hill to look for birds and insects. I joined a splinter group which caught the train into Bilbao itself (the ferry docks in a port called Santurtzi).

We went for breakfast at a cafe, ate our tortilla and drank our cafe con leche outside, and wandered down to the Guggenheim Museum. Wow. What a building. We only got four hours ashore so we didn't have time to go in, but it was still well worth it.

(the building you can actually see in this shot is just an office block; the museum itself is to the right of the giant puppy made from flowers...)

After a bit of shopping we went back to Santurtzi, boarded the ferry again and started our return journey. It sounds a bit mad but it's really good fun. Later we went up onto 'Monkey Island' (the deck above the bridge, with near-360 degree views) where we had great view of more whales and dolphins.
