I love figs - I love dried figs at Christmas and cakes with sticky figs in and figrolls and, especially, squishy fresh figs.

They are, somehow, slightly obscene....which adds to the attraction. There's no way you can be nice with a fig, it *always* squishes around and gets bits stuck in your teeth. Figs squish in the face of polite society and aim to horrify all those prudish, fruit-knife wielding people who can't just rip up, squish around and devour.

I learnt how to eat figs from my children. It was easier than trying to teach them how to be polite around food. And more fun.
