Lyon Day 3. Lyon Opera

Best intentions failed to turn into reality. For whatever reasons, we didn't get our act together until much later than planned, and didn't get out of the apartment until far later than we meant to. So there was no question of getting down to the confluence of the two rivers or of going for a trip on a river boat or of getting to La Croix-Rousse.

We did get to see Lyon Opera, though. If we hadn't fitted that in there would have been a mini revolution! It's an amazing building, a hugely imaginative architectural achievement, and a fine landmark for the city. Some day, hopefully, I'll get to see a production here. Unfortunately, that was not to be this time, since there was nothing on during our stay. It was a bit of a toss-up for today's blip, but this view of the opera house won out because of my musical interests. Actually, the runner-up was also opera-connected, though not actually of the opera house.

A bit of shopping afterwards, and then it was back for siesta before suddenly it was time to go out again for our evening meal. We tried valiantly to find a little bar Carl remembered from a previous trip to Lyon over ten years ago, but didn't quite succeed. Indeed, finding a bar that remained open any way late was quite difficult, and we ended up rushing to catch the last metro back towards the apartment, thinking that there might just be a somewhere open near our own place. There wasn't.
