Holiday living

This was the view from one of the windows in our Sitges apartment.

Getting as far as our terrace to eat lunch was the most energetic thing we did until well into the afternoon. This was really the first opportunity we'd had since leaving Dublin to lie back and relax after all the toing and froing which our Grand Holiday plan involved. It had been a wonderful and varied experience, but there's no doubt that all the moving and the checking in and checking out and the unpacking and packing and the finding our way around and the catching trains and the picking up and dropping off cars eventually took its toll. By the time today arrived we'd done the full complement of Trains and Boats and Planes and Cars and Buses, all crammed into less than two weeks. No wonder we were tired, especially after yesterday's hectic wedding schedule.

It was going on for 6.00 pm by the time we met up with some of the wedding gang in one of Sitges's many bars, just enough time for a few reminiscences about yesterday and to hear what the more energetic ones had got up to after we called a halt. After that it was time to return to the apartment to pick up our bags and head for the railway station to make our way to Barcelona airport. The locals had given us detailed instructions about the proper train to get and where to get off and switch to the airport service. Unfortunately, the Spanish railway service wasn't as efficient on this trip as it had been on the way from Barcelona. Its being dark didn't help, but the main problem was that there were no announcements about the stations we were stopping at, and we had to ask for help several times, becoming rather anxious as time went by. We finally sorted things out, got off at the right place, and got the right train to the airport. The flight home was fine, and we arrived in Dublin on time, just after midnight.

You'd think at that stage it would be a matter of falling in to bed, but no, not us. We got a taxi to my place, dropped off the bags, and continued on to my cousin's place in Clontarf to help her celebrate her 50th birthday. It was almost 5.00 am by the time we got back to my place and finally called a halt.

p.s. I'm only uploading this on Tuesday morning because (a) I came back to continued disruption of my broadband service, and (b) Sunday and Monday have been spent mostly in bed, gradually recovering from The Grand Tour. It's taken three attempts to upload this entry, so I'm taking another break before returning to tackle the resumtion of normal Blip service.

p.p.s. I've finally managed to upload yesterday's blip of The Happy Couple.
