Glens of Foudland Wind Farm

Today being somewhat brighter (and definitely drier), we went for a brisk Sunday afternoon walk following the tracks and access roads around the Glens of Foudland Wind Farm, high above the A96 Aberdeen - Inverness road between Inverurie and Huntly.

The turbines here went up about 5 years ago, and it seems to us they are already showing signs of age, most of them (there are 20 in all) emitting regular knocks and groans as they turned in the fresh breeze.

I learned recently that newer ones are quieter, as I recall this is because engineers have learned how to do away with gearboxes inside the housing behind the blades.

As you can see, glimpses of clear blue sky even started to appear through the cloud as we were walking - the first we've seen of this for quite a few days up here!
