Getting there

I was back in the unit today. Mainly I was there to offer whatever help I could to MArk the joiner who is doing great work. It's easy to kind of underestimate how much work goes into what looks like a simple piece of joinery.

The only simple piece we had today was going over the MDF shelves and units he built with a router to take off all the sharp edges incase someone clatters into them during training.

After that we started on the arduous task of installing two sets of double doors. If the measurements weren't spot on for building the door frames then when we actually get to hanging them it will be a nightmare.

So the rest of the day was spent measuring, cutting building and fitting the door frames. The wood for building the frames was about 15 - 20 mm too wide so first it had to be trimmed to the width then cut to length. After that we had to cut lap joints in the vertical pieces then fit each frame together.

Mark's dedication paid off and when we slotted them into place they were pretty much bang on give or take half a millimetre here or there.

Today's photo is of Brian who was in in the morning finishing off some of the murals he's doing. They were looking fantastic by the time he finished them all off.

Mark's back in tomorrow building a frame for the viewing window for the parents of the kids class but since I have class tonight the next shift for me will be Tuesday evening when I help Mark hang the fire doors in the frames we just built.
