Giacometti at MOMA

I took this blip in a corner of the renowned sculpture garden at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, which in its current configuration is decidedly minimalist (hardly more than a dozen sculptures, though I didn't count exactly). Worth viewing LARGE

Alberto Giacometti--doubtless best known for his slim figures like this--is one of my absolute favorite artists from the 20th century. Born in a gorgeous valley in Italian Switzerland to a artistic family, he spent virtually all of his creative life in Paris (his studio was in the 14th arrondissement, not far from our regular apartment there).

Aside from an exhibit on Matisse which ended today, the main other thing of interest to me was an exhibition entitled: "The Original Copy: Photography of Sculpture, 1839 to Today". I had little time for it, but I found it fascinating and will definitely return.

I also went to the Metropolitan Museum--it has a stunning exhibition on the 16th century artist Jan Gossart (Mabuse) and his contemporaries.
