Caledonia Dreaming

At launch of pal John's new book Caledonia Dreaming at Waterstones in Edinburgh. A sequel to his previous book Caledonication.

The book highlights 100 Scots who changed the world. While writing it I would often quiz him if this or that person was in it, hoping that my half-drunken advocacy of some worthy or another would ensure his inclusion. Quite amazing how many discoveries and inventions originated in Scotland or by Scotsmen.

I didn't know, for instance, that the term 'private eye' came from the logo of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency which featured an eye and the famous slogan 'We Never Sleep'.

Anyway that's enough - you'll have to buy the book.
