Flume Gorge

We took a long drive north today, through Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and into New Hampshire. The 'Fall' has already fallen in some areas but the trees were still beautiful shades of red, yellow and orange. We lunched at the Blue Moose Cafe in Brattleboro - which was spooky because I have just finished reading John Irving's latest novel set in the area. In the afternoon we called in at the Flume Gorge and took a great walk up the gorge above and alongside the water, and amongst the surrounding forest. Becky then drove us along the Kancamagus Highway which was spectacular but very long. Lots of the resorts are busy closing down after the summer season and, I guess, before the skiing season begins so it was tough finding somewhere to eat in Conway when we arrived at the Hostel. I'm afraid the Mexican food did not go down well with any of us so we may cut our losses tomorrow, especially after the poor weather forecast, and head back south to family in Boston. Watch this space!
