Fishing at the Dam

This is the top of a dam just north of downtown Grand Rapids. It would normally impede the movement of migratory fish in the Grand River. But in 1974, a Fish Ladder was built and at certain times of the year, you can see fish jumping the ladder (salmon, steelhead, carp, and I have no idea what else). Only mallards were enjoying it today.

There are various viewing areas on the Ladder and the photo is taken from the top of the Ladder. It is an active fishing area; a man had just caught a steelhead and was headed to his car. And just to keep the record straight, I only know what this fish was because I asked him :)
