Copenhagen and Me.

Boundries

Marking your territory is natural instinct, so I understand, and here I have caught 5 "street artists" painting on the border walls of Christiania. They were more than happy for me to take pictures of their work but not them.

Christiania is an area of 34 hectors in Copenhagen inhabited by around 1000 people. They have no clear leadership (although they do have a laywer) and everyone is responsible for the day to day running of the place. It began in 1971 with the occupation of dissused army base and has grown into a huge collective. They consider themselves to be "free" of the state (taxes and laws) and live by their own code. Apart from the artists, jewlers, smiths and general free spirits that live there, the open sale of hash/pot/weed (but nothing stronger - even alcohol is frowned on) is a major reason why tourists flock to Christiania.
