Circle of the Seasons

November Full Moon

This full moon is called the Beaver Moon here in the northeastern US woodlands, as it was the time to set out beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Sometimes it is also called the Frosty Moon.

This year there are four full moons in the Fall season, instead of the usual three. That's why this one is considered a "blue moon," which does not refer to the color of it, but rather to the calendar phenomenon.

I came back from Snow Farm late and got up on the hill just in time to shoot this before it got so dark it would have required a tripod. It's a little fuzzy, but still a pretty shot. I tried to use the "despeckle" filter to remove some of the roughness.

The full moon is exact at 12:27 am EST tonight.

There is magic in the air! A good time for scrying and prophetic dreams...
