Rabbie Burns

Henry Bain Smith's splendid 1892 bronze statue of Robert Burns, Scotland's National Poet, is particularly imposing when seen from the steps up from Union Terrace Gardens.

Hard to see in this pic, but in this statue Burns holds a flower in his hand to represent his poem To a mountain daisy.

On a snowy day, I thought this stark image would look nice in black & white or sepia, sepia got the final nod.

Victorian Union Terrace Gardens and environs are currently under threat from a development which would see this public park replaced by a brutal concrete square which would obliterate the varied topography of the Denburn Valley.
