Some Color!

I found these colorful berries and couldn't believe how pretty the color was. So nice to see some cheery color outside this time of year.

Upon some research, I found that these are possibly American Beauty Berries. Although, according to what I've found online, they are found in the southeastern part of the US, and although we are on the eastcoast, we certainly aren't in the southern part.

The berries are sweet and are favored by birds and deer. They can be eaten by humans, but only in small amounts because they are astringent. They are also used to make jellies and wine. The crushed leaves have been used to make tea and are also used to keep insects away from mules and horses. An isolated plant compound, callicarpenal, is an effective natural mosquito repellant.

I hope you all enjoy your day today!!
