Thistle Down

By Ethel

Tongues

Tongues are like knives,
That can cut to the bone.
And hearts with green envy,
Are hewn out of stone.

But some hearts are heavy,
And some tongues are kind.
The ones of understanding,
Are warm and love-lined.

Some tongues are worded,
That speaketh out bold.
And some tongues in anger,
In mockery...is told.

Tongues are like honey,
With a glow in the eyes.
Gifted to a long sermon,
Or cut up in size.

O God in heaven,
If feelings must be sung.
Supply me with patience,
And the reins to my tongue.
