The Ice Sculptures Have Begun

Harbin is known all around the world for the Ice and Snow Festival each year. The amount of skill and hard work that goes into the sculptures is amazing. Entire buildings (full sized) and amazing sculptures are created at different places arund the city.

We are very lucky to have one of the biggest a 5 minute walk from our apartments. It is called Zhao Lin Park and was the site of the original Festival. It has grown and the main site has been moved out of the city (a short taxi ride) but they still have an awesome park right on our doorstep.

There are also many sculptures and buildings made from snow and there is a one main park dedicated to Ice and another to snow. Last year they made a wall from snow that was about 200 meters long and about 30 meters high with huge sculptures with an animal theme.

The buildings and sculptures are made entirely of ice or snow. The ice ones are lit from the inside by coloured lights and the snow from the outside.
