The Lizard Meanders

Forecast-- Savory

Around where we live, the neighborhood association has trimmed the lamp posts with red ribbons and green garlands. Lots of folks seem to be in a holiday mood already, but over at the university, we've got one more week of classes, then finals week next week; then the obligatory department parties, before they finally let us go for winter break.

I want to try to wrap up work-thingies around the 15th or 16th, but then there are sundry other tasks to line up and organize, since many of our graduate student applications to the MFA Creative Writing Program (for next school year) are starting to arrive in earnest now.

Then, too, there are a few more preps I need to do for the spring semester, for a graduate class in the craft of poetry that I'm looking forward to teaching.

The hubby isn't done at work until two days before Christmas,
and daughter 4's elementary school closes around the same time. Daughter 4 has two projects to complete for next week-- a 3D map of North America, and a "countries" report/project (she has chosen the Philippines); and there is one last class field trip for the year in a few days. Daughter 3 has various rehearsals for her quartet and symphony orchestra, and a Christmas concert next Sunday...

As you can see, we are a busy little circus every single day!

Also, we have this increasing trend of cold weather ahead, though no one is saying anything about the white stuff so I'm not really complaining. After all, I grew up in the mountains and much prefer cold weather to sweltering.

Time to shake the sweaters, winter coats, and puffy down-filled jackets out of the closets! Time for the cute scarves and boots!

And tonight, I had time to make one of my/our favorite things-- savory ham-cheddar-and-chive scones. Here is a heaping plate full of them, fresh from the oven!

P.S. These are not difficult at all to make. Whip out your favorite standby recipe for Cream Scones, add a third of a cup of chopped chives (or green onions), a half cup of shredded sharp cheddar, and a half cup of chopped cooked ham.
