Candied Grapefruit Peel
In the 1950s, my Mom made candied grapefruit peel every Christmas. She did it as a special treat for my Dad who had enjoyed it as a boy growing up in New York City during the last years of the 19th and early years of the 20th Centuries.
A few years ago I resuscitated this holiday treat. It has been a big hit. People like the bitter and sweet taste of the candy. And, for the maker the candy making process carries the danger of addiction as the candy is sampled during the drying process to determine when it is ready to be packaged.
My wife and step daughter are ace jigsaw puzzler solvers . I doubt that there is a jigsaw puzzle that can frustrate their acute analytic skills. Each year, they like to do a puzzle as a holiday ritual. For the past few years, I have been having jigsaw puzzles made out of photos from the previous year for their annual puzzle. This year, I am contemplating having this photograph made into a jigsaw puzzle. OTOH, I may wimp out. I recently saw that the New Yorker magazine is offering jigsaw puzzles based on covers.
