We are sailing ...

Our Year 5/6 class have been doing a science unit on propulsion. Their social science unit has been based around the Titanic. So what better way to integrate their study than by having them built boats and then challenging them to come up with the most efficient method to propel their boats across the school pool (our River being too wide, swift and deep for the challenge).

There were some wonderful ships on display and some interesting methods of propulsion attempted, although in the end the most effiecent method was kid power - pushing them across the pool when their balloons, motors and propellors failed to move them fast enough.

A wonderful time was had by all; participants and audience. AND it should be noted that none sank, so they obviously learnt something from the Titanic study!
