Winter woolies

John Muir in Dunbar High Street has been wrapped up warm. This statue stands outside the Town House and beside several pubs - I think someone went home without their winter woolies!

John Muir is a key figure in USA conservation. After his family emigrated from Dunbar to America in 1849, Muir walked pretty much the entire east coast of America, also travelling extensively in California and Alaska. Famously, in 1903 Muir hiked in Yosemite with President Roosevelt which resulted in protection of the area as a National Park. I've read a few of his books which are great reading.

When my Dad went off on a "trip of a lifetime" cruise around the Pacific Ocean, he stopped off in Alaska. A Park Ranger gave a talk about John Muir, saying he was from California. Dad set him straight, and later bought a book from the John Muir Trust in the High Street which he sent over to the Ranger.
