Icy-weed

Low tide and low temperatures in the Tyne Estuary created these sheets of surface ice which have settled on top of the seaweed and sand as the tide retreated.

It was a beautiful cold, clear day. I walked along the beach and then through the woods to the estuary, where the tide was very low. Normally the estuary bottom is too soft to walk very far out - but today it was frozen so that I was able to walk out to the centre of the estuary. I've not been able to get that far out before - apologies to all the birds I disturbed!
