Thawrrible

Woke up this morning to find the rain was on and the snow that's been covering everything for 4 weeks now is gradually shrinking away. Great!

That's brought it's own new problems though. All the icy snow that was quite crusty and afforded some sort of grip has now been smoothed off to a treacherous state that means it's nigh on impossible to walk on. A trip down to the local shop for emergency supplies (bread, milk, batteries) had me almost on my beam end a half dozen times. Pretty sure the A&E department's going to have a run on brakes, sprains and bruises tonight.

The other thing it does is to make whole place look shitty. There must be a direct relationship between how pretty fresh snow can make anywhere look to how absolutely manky it turns when it's in its last slushy death throes. The fact that someone forgot to turn the colour on outside today didn't help either.

Managed to muster enough energy this afternoon to play with some of our Christmas toys. When it comes to driving games Daddy's still the Daddy and I've left the two kids now trying to hone their Gran Turismo driving skills to see if they can put up a bit of a better fight on the track than they did earlier. What I did find interesting was the different way Heather and Euan approached the driving. Heather (turns 17 next March, looking to start proper driving) drove around slowly trying to avoid other vehicles and sticking to all the track hints like it was her first driving lesson. Euan however, who's used to playing games that require less finesse, didn't want to use brakes at any point, would rather drive into another car to slow him down and saw it more as a stock car race than a road race. Still, by the time they've spent the next couple of days doing little else I'll no doubt be relegated to the back of the starting grid.

Good fun though. At last.
