New Year's Day

Some people are honest, some people are crooks,
Some care, and some don't, about their looks,
Some cannot read, while others breathe books,
But in green of summer, or winter's grey,
All the world over, it's New Year's Day.

Some people like hats, some prefer a bare head,
Some try to keep busy, while some stay in bed,
Some people are hungry and some are well fed,
But we can't stop the clock, and do what we may,
All the world over, it's New Year's Day.

Whatever our colour, our faith or belief,
Be we helper and giver, or vandal and thief,
It's the best of all times to turn over a new leaf:
For better or worse, the future holds sway,
As all the world over, it's New Year's Day.
