Memories of WW1

I have recently been reading a book about spending 12 days on the Somme in 1916 by Sidney Rogerson. It sounded like hell. Now, 2011, the fields of Balmullo seem to resemble the Somme. This is where I take Oscar and Poppy for their walkies. Oscar likes to sniff aound and generally stays cleanish. Poppy likes to run through the mud and generally turns from a black and white dog into a brown one. So on arrival back home, we have to go into the garden and hose the poor puppy down before she gets near the house. She does not seem to mind. But roll on summer ... let me see the dust again!
