St Mary's church, Hitchin

A quiet morning doing admin followed by a busy afternoon chasing around, working in East London, shopping, cooking, running kids off to sports training, eating, then finaly......what to photograph?

St mary's church in Hitchin is illuminated at night and has a river in front of it!

There has been a church on this site since 792 when King Offa of Mercia founded a Benedictine community on the site. That church was dedicated to St Andrew and by the time of the Domesday Survey in 1086 was described as a Monasterium.

The current church is mainly 15thC and 16thC with Saxon foundations some 12thC bits and some fancy Victorian bits.

I had fun photographing it, messing around with HDR, then mono conversions and colour washes.
