Waiting for the Ferry

It's been a long day out and now
We're waiting for the ferry.
Our chatter and our laughter that,
This morning, felt so merry,
Has faded into silence.
We are tired now, and very
In need of rest, and cups of tea.
Oh, where is Dartmouth ferry?

The road we wait on disappears
Beneath the River Dart,
We have no boat; we cannot float
Nor drive another yard.
The sun is setting on the hills.
The sky's a work of art.
But, look! Here comes the ferry:
Home we go across the Dart.

(I never noticed the lovely reflections in the Ferry Stop sign until I got home and looked at the photograph. Rather pleasing, even if it was a happy accident.)
