The Needle

Back Blipped from break in the Lakes: heading for Walney Island via Rampside down the coast we came across this intriguing tower. It is apparently an unmanned lighthouse, locally nicknamed The Needle, completed in 1895 as one of 13 built to guide ships entering the Walney channel: it was scheduled for demolition, but thanks to pressure from residents it is now a listed building.
