I'd like to thank Cagedbird, who apart from commenting on the photos also leaves interesting thoughts and ideas that linger on...

Anyway, here's my first poem of 2008.

Unlikely Destinies

A quiet wind, robed in an obscure king's gown
Glided past bare branches of snowed-over trees
Spawning a gentle whistling melody
That crashed into the arched membrane of the firmament.

A quiet man walked into the cacophony of shadows,
He perused their intent and tugged at them gently.
Like the curled knot of an infant's fingers they slid onto his palm;
Their moans stifled, even for the waiting stars.

A quiet oar slipped across the canvas of a graying river
And churned out little nuggets of memory into an honest painting
Rendering naked History's bejeweled neck.
A smiling blue moon simply looked on.

A quiet voice screeched out forgotten songs
To painted dancers who forgot their well-rehearsed roles;
And a new language, sitting atop a broken tree danced to life.
Applause, like doves, lifted towards the enduring sun.

Years hence, a voiceless scream awoke from the lifeless masses
And burned every blue sky from a child's knowing eye
The little one bled on, tasting the lost world he would inherit;
And Heaven, of indulgent smiles, hung her head in shame.
