Our Village #9

Here are some of those trailers of firewood which will be auctioned off on Saturday and which I mentioned yesterday, and there are another couple out of shot.

Yesterday evening we had a pleasant hour chatting to a young village friend, who wanted to come and see us to practise his English, and he was able to fill us in on some details about this weekend's festa. We had assumed that each of the trailers of firewood would be auctioned off individually, but it seems that they are all one lot, with bids coming from groups of family and friends who then split the wood between them. Just as well, as that amount of firewood would keep one family going for a few years!

The trailers are in the Placa Major, with the Església de Sant Andreu behind them, which I also blipped here.

Edit: Besideherself has asked where the wood comes from. There are millions of pine trees but it's an offence to fell one without permission, and there are no local managed forests. Most people get their firewood from their own land after pruning their trees, otherwise you have to buy it at the woodyard. The wood on these trailers is all almond wood, as far as I can tell, and has been donated by individuals for charity.
