The way I see it.

As Far North as you can go on UK Mainland

Contrary to popular opinion John O'Groats is not the most northerly point on the Scottish mainland. It is it's near neighbour Dunnet head. The Pentland firth still had huge waves racing through it today and you can understand why a lighthouse was built in this position.

The information board states that it has a range of 23 miles, a height of 20 metres and was built in 1831 by Robert Stevenson. I also learned from the board that this was the grandfather of the famous Robert Louis Stevenson - never knew that before.

You can see that it was a much better day here today and it is lovely to get some sunshine at the weekend! Roll on spring - I am longing for light evenings and long walks and gardening!

Oh and that is Orkney that you can see in the distance.
