Mother's favourite

The black and white cat is one of the twins who waits every day and even proffers his cheek for a kiss from his mother. It is so strange to watch but it is almost a ritual before I feed them morning and evening! These are feral farm cats who control the rat population here.

Bad news about the cow - she didn't survive and died in the night. We had to call the fallen-stock people to come and remove her together with her calf in their lorry. Looking at her calving records she has had a bad history and only one of her calves has survived its birth so perhaps there was something wrong inside but one always likes to give an animal a chance before sending it on. The vet didn't seem to know of anything probable when we phoned him this morning.
