Pull!!

We were celebrating a family birthday today. Four of us went to the clay pigeon shooting range at Gleneagles Hotel (the birthday boy is in this photo). A motley crew of 4 desperado-looking hombres descended on the unsuspecting town of Auchterarder for bacon and sausage rolls and coffee to warm us up before taking on the pesky clays. We could feel the local natives peering out from behind net curtains as the darkly dressed, skip hatted group wandered up the Lang Toon's high street munching a late breakfast.

Then off to the range. The targets were never in any serious danger. As it happens birthday boy shot 10 out of 10 at the first stand (the Haggis stand). Which was pretty amazing really since its (allegedly) only the second time he's been clay pigeon shooting. And he shot left handed! That start was good enough to keep him in front for the rest of the competition.

I think the snow definately helped to provide a great background to focus on the fast moving, erratic, bouncing, flighty, pesky clays. The instructor - Ian - was brilliant as he coached us to hit clays in each of the stands we used.

Then back to Auchterarder to celebrate success with warming coffee and cakes before heading back to Stirling for a surprise Hawaii-theme birthday party. It was a great way to celebrate the birthday.

We had four generations at the party: Great Grandparents, Grandparents, Parents and a Grandchild. Plus aunts, uncles and friends. All in all a fantastic and memorable day.
