Public Art Rage

Early-ish blip today, rain's bucketing down outside and there's nothing going to get any more exciting round these parts than this today.

I don't know the exact details of what happened here last night, but around 9pm a vehicle tried to head straight over the top of the roundabout here that holds one of Clackmannanshire's four Andy Scott sculptures. The car managed to take down a road sign before it took out the sculpture's right leg then ploughed on through some bushes until, it looks like, a tree stopped its progress any further. The sculpture has then collapsed under its own weight and was left in this mangled heap. Up until last night this is how it looked.

Lots of people on here have shots of Andy Scott's artworks in their journals and they always make for interesting subjects. Never seen like this before though.

All artistic criticism aside, or whether you agree or disagree that councils should be spending money on public art when jobs are being cut all over the sector, this is just pure madness. As I said, I have no idea what the background to the incident was other than the place was lit up with blue lights whilst sniffer dogs patrolled the streets, but I just can't get my head around what this was all about. There was no way on earth any vehicle would've made it across here, even if it didn't hit this huge sculpture; the trees and the various signposts and street lights would've made sure of that. And, this bit's a beauty, that tiny section of roof you see on the left through the bushes is the main police station for this area. They almost ended up turning themselves in!

If there's any updates to the story behind this I'll no doubt add to this later. In the meantime I'm going off to listen to some loud music, read the papers and drink lots of coffee.

FFS.

UPDATE: Made it on to the BBC website!
