Black grouse walk

This was taken from one of our favourite short walks at the top of Arkengarthdale.

There's a 3 mile circuit past several remote upland farms which will pretty much guarantee a sighting of black grouse at any time of the year. Also if you time it right as we did today the fileds are full of upland waders returning to their breeding sites in the North pennines. Today we saw a lot of curlew, lapwings, and oystercatchers, a handful of golden plover, but no redshank. We did of course see the black grouse. Last year at this same time we saw about 2000 golden plover in one field.
