Jolly Butcher in Paris

We went to the Marché Maison Blanche this morning--a market that we don't often go to even though it's nearby, and this cheerful fellow posed willingly and well (such a direct portrait of a stranger is a first for me).

He was offering the usual array of sausages, meats, etc., and for the moment he was between customers.

The market sets up twice a week (Thursday and Sunday), along the Blvd. d'Italie between the Tolbiac and Maison Blanche metro stations. (We have an invaluable small map book which lists every street market in Paris by arrondissement, with their schedules and location.)

As a first blip of this sort, I dedicate it to challenge, an expert at such portraits.
