Carnivale

Kicked today off at 2pm with the La Rochelle Carnivale. It was hot today, really hot. The sun beat down relentlessly way into the late afternoon and there was no sea breeze today to take the edge off the heat. Perfect, that's the kind of heat I like. None of that half-arsed heat that comes now again when the clouds bother to move out of the way of the sun.

The carnival boasted an eclectic mix of themes and floats. People dressed as pandas, Brazilian style samba drumming and a group of burlesque, stilted women dressed in different themes. This is one of the women, in the style of a butterfly of some sorts. She had two long pole in either hand with large, deep purple wings that she draped over the crowd. It worked really well and the colours stood out against the bright blue sky. This photo doesn't really show the face or anything, but I like the texture of the material and the movement that the light brings out in it.

It's still hot outside, which makes it nigh on impossible to any work at all. Ah well.
