Wood 'work' at Cragside

I have got Wi fi in the pub where we have just had dinner in the Scottish borders. We are staying the night and have had a lovely journey from Rothbury in Northumberland on the back roads, passing rabbits, pheasants and lots of lambs after spending the afternoon at Cragside, a NT property that was the home of Lord Armstrong. He developed hydro electricity and was one of the first to use it in his home.

After a very severe winter there has been lots of tree damage on the estate and I blipped some of the guys up in the trees trimming and pruning the big Douglas firs as I thought it would meet the 'work' challenge. But as you can see some of the felled trees have been put to use to create wood sculptures. There was a tree stump carved into an owl, with squirrels and wood peckers around the base but this fantastical creature had the wow factor.

Lovely start to our holiday - northwards tomorrow -------
