Looking up the River Forth

This is the view west from the top of Clackmannan Tower, a 14th century tower house currently under restoration by Historic Scotland. On the grassy area in the right foreground stood an 18th century mansion; now disappeared completely. In the very far distance you can just make out Ben Lomond and, just to the left, the Wallace Monument by Stirling. The Alloa Glass Works stands on the banks of the River Forth, by the Inshes, where the river meanders. The town of Alloa is in the middle foreground, with the western end of the Ochil Hills on the right. Clackmannan Tower is a remarkable vantage point from which to view an enormous expanse of the Forth Estuary.
