Fisherman's nets, St Abbs

We were on leave today and the plan was to head for a favourite Alpine nursery at Edrom in Berwickshire, buy one or two plants, and have lunch somewhere. Having foolishly omitted to check before leaving home that it was open, it was ... not. By then we were starving and ready to eat just about anything. On entering Eyemouth, we spotted Churches Hotel & Seafood Restaurant (http://www.churcheshotel.co.uk).

If there is one thing better than looking forward to a meal you have booked, it is tripping over a restaurant that way exceeds your expectations, and this was it. Beatifully fresh fish - bought each day straight from the boats - cooked with skill and imagination, followed by a glazed rhubarb and strawberry crumble with exquisite custard. A relaxed atmosphere, with both the lady cook and her husband finding time to chat about food, cooking, fishing boats, and underwater photography, a subject very close to his heart and on which he writes and teaches - see his web site for stunning images, prints of which decorate the restaurant - http://www.lawsonwood.com. A wonderful, enjoyable experience at a very reasonable price.

Replete, we headed to St Abbs, where I wandered among the fishermen's nets, ropes, creels and tidal rock pools. This image appealed to me for its simple shapes and subtle curves. It looks very natural, but reminds me of computer-generated wire images. I took well over a hundred photographs, and this is one of my favourites.
