Cold Fell - the last day of the Festival

I can't believe that the last day of the festival arrived so quickly. The forecast included a severe weather warning for heavy rain with thunder and lightening. Undaunted 18 of us set out for the strenuous walk from Clesketts to Cold Fell and Currick (621m and 547m high respectively).

At first there was a gradual ascent on a defined path; then it was the slog straight uphill to achieve most of the height for the day. From the tops we could see dense black clouds in the north discharging onto Hadrian's Wall trail. Dramatic stuff! The rain visited us briefly at lunchtime, but was light and transient.

Descending over very deep tussocky ground was hard work, but we had a wonderful day out.

This image shows JR one of the backups, coping with the wind near the top.

Next Haltwhistle Walking Festival is October 8 - 16th!
