Cobbled Together

Elm seeds on the cobbled streets of Edinburgh. There are a lot of elms in Edinburgh still, obvious at this time of year when the wind blows and the air fills with seeds then the pavements and drains are thick with them. Some strong sunlight (not a flash), a few shoots and sycamore seeds and here's an interesting abstract image. Hope you like it =)

I bumped into my brother-in-law unexpectedly right by my office about 18 months ago. He's a tree surgeon and has an enormous truck with bright cartoony logos designed by his wife, so pretty easy to spot in the middle of the city. He was pricing a job to fell all the elms in Fettes Row. There's a difference of opinion as to why you would fell elms - obviously there's Dutch Elm Disease so you might be containing the problem by "sanitation felling". Then again the mess caused by these seeds might drive penny-pinching property departments to get rid of them, which is believable but I hope not true. Anyway, the money ran out so thankfully these magnificent (and healthy) trees are still standing. For now. There's a story on the BBC explaining that the threat of disease (carried by beetles) is still very present.

Another day in the office, and another walk home by the coast. Nice light tonight but nothing that's "today only", so the seedy cobbles win.
