Wrapped up

Life must go on, even in snowy weather, and especially when Christmas looms.

I must say that Dublin Bus coped really well with the cold weather and snowfalls and all that. Rather than throw their hat at it all like they used to, they set up a dedicated web page which gave live route-byroute updates, showing which services were curtailed or unoperational. Credit where credit is due, it was all quite professional, and they deserve commendation.

The only fly in the ointment was the lack of gritting on anything but the main thoroughfares. COnditions were fine on the streets and the roads going into and in the city, but even there the footpaths remained untreated. In the suburbs and in housing estates any way off the beaten track, conditions were desperately treacherous. Hopefully some lessons have been learned. It certainly looks as if wintry winters are to be the rule rather than the exception from now on, so it's important that the "authorities" have plans in place to deal effectively with the situation in the future.

As I say, I still had to go in to town. On this this occasion I was around Dawson Sreet and quite liked the festive look of the Mansion House.
