Swimming Against The Tide

Groovy Wall

Well, today was quite a day!

It started with a trip to the garage to buy oil for the car, continued with working my way through various jobs, including putting said oil into the car, and then made its way into the world with me leaving home late morning, having installed plenty of crunchies, water and promises to be back soon for the cats!

I dropped some asparagus and a brace of pheasant off at Scharwenka's then collected the Wonderspouse from work. We had a really easy smooth trip to Brighton, parked easily, then went to the room we'd booked a the Artist Residence Hotel there!

It was a FAB room. None of the usual magnolia horrors you usually get in hotels, none of the insipid pictures of "views" on the wall, but a room decorated by an artist and furnished not with "expensive looking but really totally rubbish" stuff, but "normal looking but really very good quality" stuff! The bath was deep and comfy, the bed was absolutely GORGEOUS, and we could see the sea and the remains of the burnt-down West Pier from our window!

After settling in and admiring the walls (the picture is of the large motif painted above the bed), we went out to do a little shopping. I bought a t-shirt and the Wonderspouse got a belt. We also browsed many little alleyways, walked the length of the East Pier, and picked up a Burger King supper to take home!

The evening was taken up with the real purpose of the trip - the Wonderspouse was doing reading and book-promotion at the Grit-Lit festival. There were some good acts there - my favourites were ones about someone who had a handbag full of chocolate cake and someone who may have poisoned her husband with dodgy tea! We also met some fab people from twitter (@federay, @undividual and @quackwriter)! The Wonderspouse finished the evening by reading something very rude called "The Last Fluffer in La-la Land" which is from his book of short stories!

Then we went back to the hotel and slept well and soundly until morning!

:-)
