The Edge of the Wold

Lads

Today looked liked being a busy day at work, so I had a quick walk before work along the Lancaster Canal at Crooklands. These young lads are a curious, frisky bunch who enjoy a good bit of sparring, but interestingly there also seems to be some real affection between them.

There was no sign of the family of 11 ducklings seen a few weeks ago. I was glad, as I didn't want to know how many had disappeared in the interim.

Yesterday's discovery that the Boss blackbird was still with us was a joy. Wifie had been particularly upset about the apparent loss of the beautiful bird. Joy is of course tempered by the fact that some poor blackbird did still come to grief. I am also feeling guilty though that we jumped to conclusions and blamed Bob the Cat, who it now appears may have been innocent of the crime.

We saw a fleeting bit of blue sky today and it was less windy, but I must say I'm longing for a period of warm settled weather. Though we had a warm dry April, in the south and east of England, it has continued to be an exceedingly dry Spring, and now there is talk of drought measures by the water companies.
