Oblivious

Two days ago, I brought to you the news of an impending civil war, brewing right in the middle of this intrepid reporter's patch. In further news a ceasefire appears to have been reached, with both parties showing some willingness to ignore the other. This comes only after the newcomer chased the occupying force up a tree in a show of superior force, and locals are said to be hoping the occupying force has surrendered. There is concern, however, about the arrival of a third party, a rebel who has shown his intentions with the laying of a dead civilian directly outside your reporter's window. Photos of this are too gruesome to share, but it appears torture, dismemberment and detailment have been inflicted on the innocent.

But even in the midst of war new life springs forth. Oblivious to the carnage just metres from its home, this civilian is concentrating on reaching new heights. After insisting on anonymity, I was permitted to photograph this survivor. It feel secure, it told me, with deep roots holding it firmly in place, and trusted that by keeping its head down no harm would befall it. Only time will tell if this tactic is successful.

Your reporter will keep you informed as this territorial battle plays out.
