Pie Ranch

A quick shot of a high school student feeding a sprig of alphalfa to one of the goats on Pie Ranch. This is a piece of farm land only a 1/4 of a mile from the bluffs of the Pacific Ocean near Pescadero California. Inner city students visit with their teacher to learn about sustainable agricultural practices. During a full day they get to exerience common farm animals including chickens, goats, and cows. Some take a turn milking the goats. Others are "hilling" potato plants in the field and yet others are preparing a lunch from fresh vegatables. Everyone gets to participate in making pies that will be cooked in a kiln oven and served after lunch. The pie today was strawberry-rhubarb.

Pie Ranch got it's name from the triangle shape of the 14 acre organic farm. Making pies as part of the education just seemed natural.

Enjoy!
