Brian's Bits

By Kanyl

About my wife.

She is NOT a hydrocarbon.

Saturated, or otherwise.

nor is she
''to be confused with Alkene or Alkyne.
Alkanes (also known as paraffins or saturated hydrocarbons) are chemical compounds that consist only of the elements carbon (C) and hydrogen (H) (i.e.,hydrocarbons), wherein these atoms are linked together exclusively by single bonds (i.e., they are saturated compounds). Alkanes belong to a homologous series of organic compounds in which the members differ by a constant relative molecular mass of 14.''

The poor lass was Christened Alice and was just unfortunate enough to marry me, which makes her, as the mighty few knew and the masses now know, Alice Kane.
Long before she married me she was known as ''Al'', which immediately made her Al Kane.
Worse still, she has the middle initial ''L'', forcing her to sign her name ''ALKane''.

Clicky and Co. were at one of the local big shows lately and just happened to see a stall from the Japanese garden which we visited while in Cornwall, saw this, and, of course could not resist it any more than I can resist Blipping it.

The other side(s) of the coin ...
Take your pick...

On the one hand...
''Akane is the Japanese word for madder (Akane, Rubia cordifloria) and is associated with red (from the red dye made from its roots).''

and on the other...
Acer palmatum 'Akane'
I have also seen it written as 'Aka ne'. According to the Appendix A of the Vertrees/ Gregory book 'Aka' means red and 'ne' means ridge, origin.
