Armed Forces Day

" They gave their today so that we might have our tomorrow"

Today Mid Argyll turned out en masse to support the Armed Forces Day. The town was full of the sounds of the Mid Argyll Pipe Band and the Oban Pipe Band. The veterans accompanied by the Royal British Legion, TA, Airforce Cadets and Sea Cadets marched through the town which was lined with people supporting our Armed Forces.

I did get some photos of the some of the veterans from Erskine Hospital , Machrihanish and Campbeltown British Legion. There was one wonderful old veteran who was happy to pose for me , the clarity and blue of his eyes were quite something, what they must have seen during his youth hadn't dimmed the sparkle and vigour in his eyes. Yet somehow I just couldn't bring myself to upload any images of him as they seemed just too personal. for the internet.I will print an image just for him.

Instead I have uploaded a shot of our local pipers practising on the front green at Ceann Loch Gilp ( Lochgilphead ). I was really pleased to capture this shot with Rod leading the pipers as he has done for many years. He has taught so many of our young pipers over the years and is such a self deprecating person who never looks for any credit for the achievements of his young players , some of whom have gone on to be champion pipers. The young man whose back is centre shot to the camera is a world champion piper and went on to graduate from the Scottish School of Piping.
